BAND UPGRADING COURSE ENDS WITH RECOMMISSIONING OF AN OLD MESS

The Commander, Support Services Brigade Group, Brig Gen Francis Ofori, has officially closed the Band Upgrading A4 – A1 Course 2 and also re-commissioned an old mess on Tuesday, 18 October, 2016 at Butler Lines in Accra.
In his remarks, Brig Gen Ofori commended the Commanding Officer (CO), Lt Col Oppong for running such a course to upgrade the potency of the bands men. He said plans were under way to put the school under Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS).
Brig Gen Ofori who doubled as the Guest of Honour for the occasion urged the students to demonstrate their capabilities in their various units as they leave. He also charged them to practice more to improve upon the skills they have acquired. He commended students who had received various awards, especially the Overall Best, L/Cpl Akwaboh, Francis for his outstanding performance. The courses was run for the Armed Forces and other sister services band personnel.
The three months course started on the 15 July 2016 with 82 students from the three Arms of Service. The students were taken through rudiment of music, staff notation, various band instruments notably the trumpet, trombone, tuba, band display, band drill and all drum set up.
Subsequently, Brig Gen Ofori re-commissioned a renovated mess which was not functioning for several years. He appreciated the efforts of the Commanding Officer in bringing back the mess and urged the personnel of the unit to patronize it. He noted that, without good accountability, the mess will not be in good standing and could collapse again.
